Had a lunch meeting with business school classmate (and now VC) Kent Bennett today at B&G Oyster in the South End. I have no interest in eating Oysters, and I still had an incredible meal. I highly recommend stopping by for lunch if you’re in the area.
So this is like having a yard, pee included, inside your apartment?
– Me, noticing that Nikki bought a small box/tray covered with sod for use in the house. Apparently, it saves you the hassle of going outside with your dog, but I suppose it adds the hassle of having to clean up your dog’s contributions.
The guy holding the US flag at the Olympic opening ceremonies is a Sudanese refugee elected by the rest of the team. Great story.
I’m eating lots of peanut butter, Easy Mac, and cereal as we clear the pantry before the big move. I’m the human garbage disposal this month
I just learned I’m having dinner with @a32b and his lovely fiance after class tonight, and I’m extremely happy about it.
Congrats, @Rajil!
Raise more capital than you need: every assumption in an excel model *mutiplies* variability, and all startups have assumptions galore.
My dog is a complete snob. He will spit out dogfood pieces that don’t seem fresh/crispy. Wolf, don’t be that dog.
Get paid for your old useless gadgets.
They’re useless to you, but someone out there would love them. And you don’t have the time to manage a days-long auction.
I’m now a big fan of Gazelle, a venture-backed company that seems to arbitrage old electronics on eBay. You go through your old drawers looking for unused cell phones, iPods, computers, cameras, etc. They’ll estimate a no-haggle price and pay you that...
I heard T. Boone Pickens’ “big plan” tonight on Larry King. It seems like he’s spending hundreds of millions of dollars promoting the natural gas industry, in which he is very much invested. Is he raising awareness on an environmental issue or lobbying for his financial interest? I have no problem with either; but be honest with Americans, T. Boone.
Also of note: Richard...
Pet peeve: when people spell ‘desperately’ with two a’s (‘desparately’). You’d think that ABC’s housewives would have educated the American public about how wreckless that is.
Pandora is better than it used to be
I’ve come around on Pandora recently. It’s been an outstanding way to produce background noise/music for my work day. Last.fm is excellent as well, but the recommendaions recently haven’t been as accurate as Pandora’s. I will continue to do some A/B testing and keep you posted.
Great bbq i Swampscott (sp?) and now to write up some Sunday design specs for the week’s work. I think by now I’ve got a good routine going.
Even though the interface encourages it, status updates or tweets in the third person now just make me think the person is arrogant.
One thing I’ll miss about Cambridge: Central Kitchen
That’s called a cramdown.
– Guy at dinner last night. He seemed to like using financial buzzwords and talking down to me because I didn’t flash my MBA degree.

Renewing my interest in Typography
I’m a huge fan of FontShop, with their visual search engine for fonts. I used to love collecting fonts when I was a kid and doing basic web design in the mid 90s; it’s good to be back.
Craigslist doesn’t seem to work too well for items priced above $200. My modern media console found a buyer in seconds, but I can’t offload my dresser to save my life.

Cranking on some development work with Alex in the office before heading to Richmond for Murph’s wedding. I’m excited to see everyone tomorrow; I’m also ready for the wedding season to be over.
Trying to make some final edits to an investor presentation while watching John Paul give a lecture on Adam Smith. Inspiring.
Today we’re hitting the Projekt Revolution concert in Hartford with my niece. Her third concert ever. Extra ticket available if anyone wants one!
